What it is
Jessica Harris was seventeen when she abandoned her plan to become a doctor and started working out how to get into the porn industry — a trajectory that began with childhood exposure and ran straight through a Christian education where no one imagined a girl might be the one struggling. Beggar's Daughter is her memoir of that addiction and of finding grace on the other side of it, and its value is largely in existing at all: most porn-recovery literature addresses men, and women who read it come away more convinced they are uniquely broken. Harris has since become one of the most visible voices for women in this space through her Beggar's Daughter ministry. Hand this to a woman who is sure she is the only one, or to a parent or leader who needs to understand that she is not.
