What it is

Celebrate Recovery began at Saddleback Church in 1991 under John Baker and now runs in more than 35,000 churches worldwide, plus recovery houses, rescue missions, universities and prisons. It is deliberately broad — 'hurts, hang-ups and habits' covers addiction, codependency, anger, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, abuse, perfectionism and control, and about two-thirds of attendees are there for something other than substance abuse. The structure is a large-group teaching time followed by smaller gender-separated open share groups, run on eight recovery principles mapped to the Beatitudes. For this directory its value is availability: it is free, requires no registration or advance notice, and there is almost certainly a meeting near you, which is not true of any porn-specific group. The trade-off is that the room is mixed-issue, so someone wanting a room where everyone is fighting the same thing may want an SA, Samson Society or Pure Desire group alongside it. Find a meeting at CRLocator.com; a weekly online meeting runs Wednesdays at 12pm PT on Zoom.
