Sexaholics Anonymous (SA)

By Sexaholics Anonymous

The twelve-step fellowship with the strictest sobriety definition — no sexual activity outside marriage, and progressive victory over lust. Many Christians choose it for exactly that reason.

What it is

SA differs from the other twelve-step fellowships in one significant way, and it is the reason to list it separately from SAA. Where most groups let each member define their own sobriety, SA defines it for everyone: for married members, no sexual activity outside marriage plus progressive victory over lust; for unmarried members, no sexual activity at all on the same terms. That is a demanding standard and it is not for everyone — but it also maps closely onto what a Christian in recovery is already aiming at, which is why many find the room more coherent than one where each person is working toward a different line. Free to attend, meetings in person, by phone and online worldwide, no referral, no membership. The fellowship is careful to say the definition applies within SA and that it does not speak for anyone outside it.
