What it is

The Porn Phenomenon is Barna Group's major research study, conducted with Josh McDowell Ministry, on pornography use and attitudes across American teens, young adults, adults, pastors and youth pastors. Its value is entirely in its provenance: Barna is a credible research organization, so a leader citing these figures is not passing along a statistic of unknown origin from a ministry website — a real problem in this field, where widely repeated numbers often trace back to nothing checkable. The study covers how prevalent use is inside the church, how differently generations regard it morally, and — most uncomfortably for church leadership — the proportion of pastors and youth pastors who report their own use. Paid, and priced as a research report rather than a trade book. For a leader who needs to convince an elder board that this is not someone else's problem, this is the document.
