National Domestic Violence Hotline

By The Hotline

Free and confidential, any hour — including a text option for when it isn't safe to speak. Coercive control turns up in these marriages more often than anyone in ministry likes to say.

Directory overview

What it is

Not every marriage damaged by pornography is also an abusive one, and most are not. But some are, and a directory that only offers reconciliation resources leaves the woman in that second situation with nowhere to go. The Hotline is free, confidential, and staffed around the clock — by phone at 1-800-799-7233, by text (START to 88788), or by chat, and the text and chat options matter enormously when speaking out loud is not safe. Advocates do crisis support, safety planning, and referrals to local shelters, legal aid and counselling. There are dedicated lines for Native and Alaska Native callers, for young people through Love is Respect, and for deaf callers. It sits here alongside Called to Peace Ministries, which does similar work from inside a Christian frame; some women will want one and some the other, and both should be reachable.
