What it is
Your directory has had Sex Addicts Anonymous for the person acting out and nothing free for the person living with it. S-Anon is that: a twelve-step fellowship for spouses, partners, family and friends whose lives have been affected by someone else's sexual behaviour, adapted from the Al-Anon model. Meetings are free, confidential, roughly an hour, and available in person across the US, Canada and internationally as well as by phone and online. There is also S-Ateen for young people aged twelve to nineteen, which almost nothing else in this field offers. Members are encouraged to attend several meetings before deciding, because one is rarely representative. It is not a Christian programme — the higher power is left to the member — and a great many Christians use it comfortably alongside their church. For a woman who cannot afford a partner-trauma therapist, this is the free option that actually exists in her town.
