12 Steps with Jesus

What it is

Don Williams takes the twelve-step framework and re-grounds each step in the person of Jesus rather than a generalized higher power. His argument is that addictive behavior grows out of an emptiness, and that letting Jesus fill it is what makes the steps hold. Published by Chosen (a Baker imprint) in 2004, it runs as a readable trade book rather than a workbook, and it lands well with two groups: people already in a twelve-step room who want the theology made explicit, and pastors or small-group leaders looking for a way to use step work inside a church context. It is not addiction-specific — the material applies across compulsions, not just sexual ones.
