What it is

Kristen Jenson solved the problem parents actually have, which is not motivation but vocabulary: what do you literally say to an eight-year-old? Good Pictures Bad Pictures is designed to be read aloud together, and it does three things in sequence — defines pornography in age-appropriate terms, explains simply how the thinking brain and the feeling brain respond to it, and gives the child a rehearsed five-step CAN DO plan to use in the moment they encounter it. That last part is what separates it from a warning: the child leaves with a script, not just an anxiety. A companion volume, Good Pictures Bad Pictures Jr., covers ages three to six. It is faith-friendly without being denominational, so it works in households that would not use an explicitly Christian book. The most-recommended prevention title in this whole directory, and the one to buy before anything happens.
